About Us

Groovapolitan was formed when bass player Dario Salvi and drummer Chris Griggs got together with our musicians in Norwich to start and recreate the magic sound of the Meters.

After a couple of years of gigging in the region and some personnel changes the band moved towards a more commercial sound without selling out to what is the usual function band repertoire, playing all over East Anglia.

Band members:

Dario Salvi – bass guitar and vocals. Dario has played all over Europe and the USA with his own bands and as backing musician. He plays his funky bass like few others!

Clare Durrant – vocals. Clare is the voice of the groove. Classically trained and a singing teacher Clare’s musicality and soulfulness brings warmth to the slick sound of the band.

James Porter – guitars. James is a very busy guitar teacher with an amazing musical background. His funky guitar is one of the core elements of Groovapolitan’s sound.

Matt Furness – drums. Matt is a young musical talent and a very busy musician and drum teacher in the region. His bass drums will keep dancers going all night long.

Hannah Salvi – trombone. Hannah’s musical background included graduating with a Music Production degree as well as performing in many bands and orchestra.

Mark Gage – saxophone. Mark is the newest member of the band and completes the horn lineup. He is a popular local musician and is well known for his soulful sound.
